It is still possible to acquire a property for around GBP 6,000 which, of course, will need renovation, but even at this price one can secure a good-sized plot with spectacular views. Another alternative is to custom-build your own home. This can be done in a variety of ways; by purchasing land, by purchasing a property and living in it whilst building in the grounds, or, by demolition of a derelict property in order to use the plot. A selection of architect-designed house plans are available for inspection and/or purchase.
